The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. A sword is used for destruction to its enemy as well as for protection and comfort to its friend. It reflects its strength in the light, and humbly waits by its friend's side until it is called upon again to do battle.

Your foes will be enraged at the presence of the Word of God and wit! retreat, the distance depending upon the mastery with which it was wielded. For to own a sword does not mean that you are safe; you must be able to use it, and use it skillfully, to fend off your attackers. Many have been destroyed or lead astray while in possession of their weapon.

Practice with your sword daily. Get to know the Word of God intimately, so that you will be prepared to defend yourself, as well as others, from the enemy.
